During a recent conversation, Dananeer said that Devdas glamorises alcoholism and emotional pain, adding that such films should not be celebrated blindly in modern times.
According to Dananeer, while the movie is visually beautiful and emotionally intense, the central character’s self-destructive behavior sends a problematic message. She reportedly mentioned that audiences often romanticize toxic love stories and alcohol addiction because of films like Devdas. Her opinion quickly divided the internet, with many users criticizing her for speaking against one of Bollywood’s most loved classics.
Several fans of Shah Rukh Khan defended the film and said Devdas was never meant to promote alcoholism but rather portray heartbreak, societal pressure, and emotional tragedy.
